Where one may fear to avoid in their lives, the power of a gavel, wielded by a judge, some fear just as well, if not more, the power of physicians who wield a stethoscope over their hearts. In simpler words, the judge wields the power of freedom and the doctor or physician wields the power of health and life, hence the fear. And, yes, God overrules them all and does give us intellectual ability. We are still expected to use our abilities with this power.
RECENT NEWS: Power, Privileged, Trust
In the wake of a physician who was charged with falsely diagnosing his patients with cancer, whereby some were even prescribed chemo treatments, I would like to briefly address this very common fear at the request of my husband as to why this fear even exists.
I wasn’t really sure whether I wanted to bring any thought to this, as this is a very sad and unfortunate case. And this isn’t to say that these patients had any fear of the provider. But it does indeed leave the question open. But before we do…..
A Brief Word On Something Important…
I will soon publish a book, where, among other points, I talk about the need for the patient to question and advocate for themselves and to inquire into second opinions where needed.
My book is called A Simple Guide To The Vehicle of Self. It’ll help you understand the simple aspects of various body systems, ailments, health assessment processes, advocacy, racial disparities, professional titles encountered in health care, mindful living, and so on. It will also help you understand the intricacies of the body, and mind, and the connection between them.

I highly encourage its purchase for yourself and as a gift. At 87 pages, it is packed with information that you would otherwise have to read 20+ books to acquire the same knowledge. So, even though the information is not overwhelming, it is plentiful and a guide to encourage further research. It’s a great gift for your loved ones, especially with the New Year in approaching to be in control of your spirit, mind, and body.
Please send your interest for Pre-Order through the contact page email (Get IN Touch TAB), and we will get in contact with you.
Thank you in advance.
Now, let’s talk about the fear of doctors…
How Prestige And Respect For The Physician Can Lead To Fear
My first impression when discussing with my husband was to say that any fear we encounter is not just from one instance. There is usually a pattern of fear. And for us to assert ourselves, especially when dealing with professionals in professional situations, where we feel vulnerable, we must come with a healthy sense of self.
Hence, I mentioned the reason for my blogs, which is that the more information we have about ourselves, the more we may appreciate our own value. So, this would not make us more or less important than the doctor. What it would do, however, is provide for equal respect, in mind with polite disagreement.
Obviously, this can be really tough, whereby you are told by an entrusted professional in your healthcare where the word cancer has evolved. But this would exactly be a reason to respectfully seek one.
A Personal Example…
In the case of my daughter, she was gravely ill for over a year. And even as a healthcare professional, I realized, through many stays at the hospitals, how draining and depleted one can be.
When the doctors made their rounds, usually in groups of sometimes five, perhaps the old me could have folded under such pressure. But I encountered them with confidence and resilience. Other times I needed the help of my husband to buffer the exhaustion, and being overwhelmed. At a point we had to move our daughter to another hospital for care. This was not easy, and these actions were many times consequential. But I ultimately saved our daughter from a wrong turn of diagnosis.
You may say that my healthcare background was key in this process, but I will tell you that when you’re in these situations, you become simply a parent. Yes, I had the language of clinicians, but most important was self-knowledge and my own sense of self-worth. This prevented the feeling of intimidation. My recommendation for life in general is to continue the practice of self care, and self-knowledge.
A Final Word
Again, I would really appreciate your support in the pre-order purchase of A Simple Guide To The Vehicle of Self. Remember, self-knowledge is key to gaining the level of confidence required in all situations. It helps you understand how we function, how we interact with others when to react, and when to be humble. It also inspires us to remain curious and ask questions.
The physician being charged was an unfortunate case. The majority of providers are well-intentioned and provide a safe environment where patients may voice concerns. However, disparities still occur. And this should shed light on racial disparities as well. Black people face this in their everyday interactions within the healthcare system. Covid was a very real reminder of this truth.
Therefore, I encourage again, self-advocacy and questions. Bring someone with you, seek second opinions, and invest in private nursing consultants as advocates.
As always, I appreciate your time and support by, like, comment, star, as well as share to others this powerful message.
Blessings,
Nougye
